StarShipit and Macship Integrations Available Now with your Web Ninja Website

Darren White |

Did you know Web Ninja has direct integration with freight cost calculators Star Shipit and Macship?

Whilst Web Ninja's ecommerce platform has built-in shipping tables and our Advanced Shipping module to calculate freight costs at checkout, these require setup and configuration to present delivery charges.

To take some of the manual setup out of your delivery charge calculations, we've integrated with a couple of well-known freight 'aggregator' platforms to fetch live rates at checkout, as well as have your orders sent to these platforms for consignment note generation and shipment tracking. This means you have options on which courier/transport companies you can use. Most of our customers have arrangements with preferred couriers etc. this means you can still have those arrangements, but also have options of other transport options if needed.

Differences between Star Shipit and Macship - both are good options for those needing live rates, consignment note creation, and tracking. Star Shipit is great for an out-of-the-box setup with some nice ability to create some custom rules for various items. MacShip is more of a custom option, provided by freight brokers themselves (not sold directly by MacShip) for complex cost calculations where products may not fit the standard shipping rules or require additional surcharges, etc.

Here's some key differences between the two:

Star Shipit:

A shipping/fulfilment platform for eCommerce. Helps online retailers automate their order-fulfilment / shipping process: label printing, courier integrations, tracking, notifications, etc.

Particularly good for eCommerce, retailers, 3PLs, multi-channel sellers, especially those with frequent parcels, international shipments etc.

Good automation around shipping rules (e.g. choose courier based on weight, destination etc.), address correction, tracking notifications, branded tracking etc. Helpful in reducing manual steps.

MacShip:

A freight management/transport management system (TMS) focused more on larger or heavier freight, distribution, wholesale, handling multi-carrier rates, invoice reconciliation, integration with ERP/WMS etc

Good for businesses handling freight, large shipments, warehouses/distribution, those needing to manage multiple carriers, complex rate structures, internal systems integration etc.

Also strong automation, but more around freight quoting, consigning, manifesting, tracking, and integrating with other business systems (ERP, WMS) to streamline entire logistics/freight workflows.

Summary

Here’s what you might get (or sacrifice) depending on which you choose.

  • If you go with Starshipit, you’ll likely benefit from faster setup for eCommerce parcel fulfilment, good tools for tracking, notifications, handling returns, etc.

  • If you go with MachShip, you’ll get more power for freight operations: cost control, visibility, integrations, etc. But it might be overkill (and more expensive) if your shipping volume is mostly parcel / small courier, with simpler workflows.

Of course, do your own research and contact them directly explain your requirements before you jump in. Once you've made a decision and you wish to integrate one of these platform to your Web Ninja website, let us know and we can guide you through the implementation process.
